artist Statement

My current body of work focuses on the tension between the beautiful and the unpleasant side of humanity. Through this body of work, I share my journey with loss and the raw emotions that come with it. I use images of myself as references, but I aim for the viewers to be able to relate to their own lives in my paintings. While loss looks different for every person, it is the one of the only experiences that every person in all of humanity can share. While grief can paralyze a person at times, it is also impermanent. By juxtaposing beautiful flowers with such painful and sad images, I aim to express the subtlety of human emotion, where deeper feelings may lie beneath surface appearances. I want viewers to identify with my paintings so that they can reflect on their own experiences. My hope is always to bring people together by creating a deep sense of empathy.
